A Brief History

Our journey into yarn dyeing began in 2007. I had just finished reading the seventh and last volume of Harry Potter. As any proper fan would, I decided to get a Gryffindor scarf, adorned with red and gold stripes.

But why buy a scarf when I knew how to knit?

Having a hard time finding the right colours in a single size of good yarn quality, I ended up buying a hand-dyed skein containing both necessary colours off a web store.  That skein only whetted my appetite: I needed to know more. I had never heard of hand-dyed yarn before!

I went ahead with my first try and that is when magic happened… maybe not Harry Potter’s magic, but definitely yarn-dyeing magic! Knitting with my own yarn, that I had dyed myself, was both fulfilling and enthralling. No sooner was I done that I wanted to do more. Lots more!

My husband and family have joined me to create what became the great Biscotte team and ever since then, demand began to grow!

Trough word of mouth, our dyeing work became more widely known, to he point of reaching customers not only in Canada, but also in the United States, France, Belgium, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Australia, Sweden and Qatar!

Biscotte Yarns specializes in hand-dyed yarns, particularly in self-striping colourways.  We love to play with colors and natural fibers : merino wool, cashmere, mohair, alpaca & silk… We create our own knitting pattern as well.

Since 2010, we have a brick and mortar yarn store where we do our dyeing in the workshop annexed to the store.

Allowing people to discover the beauty of hand-dyed yarn and the pride that comes from knitting or crocheting their own project is what makes it all worthwhile.

We like to think there is something magical about yarn dyeing… after all, plenty of wonderful things have been happening to us since we started down that path. Our work has given us opportunities to meet numerous knitters, crocheters and fibre-lovers from all over the world, all equally fascinating!

It is a deep privilege for us to do this work. May the magic never stop.
